On August 20, 2026, Village Furniture had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Brad Vis, Member of Parliament for Mission-Matsqui-Abbotsford and Shadow Minister for Small Business Recovery and Growth, and Mr. Sukhman Gill, Member of Parliament for Abbotsford-South Langley, along with their staff, Nina Ariola and Vinay Waraich.
The visit gave us an opportunity to share the story behind Village Furniture, explain how our buying and consignment services work, and show how quality used furniture can help local families furnish their homes for less while keeping good pieces out of landfills.
From a Garage to an Abbotsford Showroom
During the visit, owner Vini shared how Village Furniture began shortly after he arrived in Canada from Brazil in 2016. Vini began finding and selling pieces from his in-laws' garage.
After a few months in their garage, and about a few years in a small warehouse in Abbotsford, the next major step was opening the current showroom. After years of selling mainly online, the showroom allows customers to experience the furniture in person, browse different styles, and discover unexpected pieces while visiting for something else.
Making Quality Furniture More Affordable
Vini explained that Village Furniture is not simply a store that sells anything used. Every piece is curated on its quality, condition, style, and potential value for the next owner.
The showroom offers a changing selection of modern, antique, Danish and mid-century furniture, for much less than the original retail price. Village Furniture also cleans and prepares upholstered pieces before offering them for sale.
Although most customers come from Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, and Langley, unique antiques, mid-century and Danish pieces regularly attract buyers from Vancouver, other parts of British Columbia, and even as far as Saskatchewan, Washington, and Oregon in the US.
Buying, Consignment, and Giving Furniture Another Life
The MPs also learned about what makes the Village Furniture business model different. In addition to selling furniture, the store purchases quality pieces and offers consignment services for people who do not have the time or experience to sell furniture privately.
Instead of dealing with advertising, unanswered messages, scammers and missed appointments, consignors can leave the process with VF. The store evaluates the piece, markets it, waits for the right buyer and shares the proceeds with the owner when it sells.
This model creates value for the seller, the store, and the next family that will use the furniture. It also helps keep well-built pieces in circulation rather than allowing them to be discarded. More than a few times customers that bought from VF return to consign when they are moving.Ā
During the showroom tour, Vini showed the MPs a refinished mid-century walnut dresser that had been carefully restored. The conversation also turned to the personal value of furniture when Mr. Vis shared the story of a large solid-wood table that had been in his wife's family for decades and was recently refinished rather than replaced. It was a fitting example of how quality furniture can carry a family's meals, conversations, and memories through generations.
Supporting Other Local Creators
Village Furniture also uses its showroom to support other local small businesses and artists. The walls display original artwork from members of the Central Fraser Valley Graphic Guild.
Locally made Abbotsford soaps and candles by SoapScapes are displayed throughout the store as well. These partnerships allow customers to discover Fraser Valley creators while making the showroom more welcoming and giving small local brands another place to reach customers.
Looking Toward the Future
Vini also spoke about his interest in expanding the restoration side of Village Furniture in the future.
Growing the team would allow Village Furniture to provide more restoration services, save additional pieces from disposal and continue expanding the showroom and online business. Both MPs recognized the demand for quality restoration and encouraged Village Furniture to continue building awareness through its location, signage, customer relationships, and word of mouth.
A Special Thank-You
At the end of the visit, Mr. Vis and Mr. Gill presented Village Furniture with a certificate of recognition from their offices, recognizing the business and its place in the local community.
We sincerely thank Mr. Vis, Mr. Gill, and their staff for taking the time to visit, tour the store and learn more about our story. We are also thankful to Debbie Manchur from the Central Fraser Valley Graphic Guild for helping create the connection that made the visit possible.
Village Furniture looks forward to continuing to serve Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley by offering quality furniture at accessible prices, helping local residents sell their pieces, and giving well-built furniture another opportunity to be part of someone's home.
New pieces are added every Wednesday. Visit our shop page to see our latest arrivals or stop by our Abbotsford showroom.
